On June 3oth at 11:50 pm, Baby W. decided to come early. 8 1/2 weeks early in fact.
Hazel Mae Wingerden
3 lbs. 10 oz.
16 1/4" long
and the most beautiful baby we have ever seen.
She has spent the last thirty days in the NICU and still has a little ways to go.
She is definitely growing stronger every day and we are hopeful that she will be home with us very soon.
You can follow her journey on Facebook as that is the easiest way for me to update her status and share photographs.
My apologies to those who aren't members...I will try to blog more once she is home with me. I promise!
Until then...

Dear sweet Alice... what a precious blessing from Heaven ~ I have so loved seeing little Hazel grow!!! It's just a matter of time 'til you two will be piled up at home and loving every minute with each other. What a love journey dear friend ~ xxoo, Dawn

Congratulations! She is a darling wee little lass now... and I have no doubt that she will grow up healthy and strong and beautiful! My Daniel was 8 weeks early too and now he is 27, healthy, happy and an attorney! Enjoy every minute and I know how hard it is to leave her at the hospital each day but trust me...it will be just a memory for you soon. I always looked at it like I waited so long for my baby (10 years) that having a preemie was just a way for me to have a newborn for a longer time!
Love her name...my Nana was a Hazel!
Take care, Laura :)

Alice- I am a new follower. Love what you are doing. I must say, both of my boys were born 8 weeks early at 4 lbs each and it is so rotten to be robbed of your pregnancy when you least expect it... to have to learn to be a mother with an ng tube instead of a breast or bottle...but you just love that little baby girl and snuggle her close and she will grow up strong and lovely and your heart is gonna burst with how much you love her each day. You're going to wake up and say, I love you SOOO much more than yesterday, and I didn't think it was possible to love you any more. Your love and faith in your little girl and in God will grow exponentially. I wish you all the best. Save those teeny tiny beautiful little preemie clothes.Regards, Andrea @ townandprairie.blogspot.com

Hello Alice,
Just saw your blog and couldn't help but to comment on your new baby girl. Our son,Scott, was 7 weeks early and weighed 2lbs.4oz. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks. He is now 26 years old and is 6 ft. tall and doing great. He is getting his masters in marine biology. Being a preemie was hard finding the clothes then, so we bought cabbage patch doll clothes. I did save some of the outfits, especially the ones he wore in the hospital. Scott has a shoebox with all the pictures from the ICU and the charts that were posted everyday showing his weight gain. Every time we take out the box it reminds me of how little and precious he was. Congratulations to your little miracle!
Love,
Jody

Congratulations, my daughter Bella was born at 23 weeks 5 day; she weight 15oz and was 10 inches long; she spent 5 months in the Baylor Dallas NICU and came home this month on the 8th of August 2 years ago. Today we played in the back yard in her swimming pool and she is now 29 months olds. All babies are miracles but I say preemies are a special gift from God for us preemie moms to be able to watch God's gift of life at work it is a great experince that I would never give up. I will be praying for your sweet baby to be home soon.

She's absolutely adorable! And a blessing beyond words. I also had a preemie, 4 lbs and now she's all grown up and 34 yrs old. You and your hubby are going to love her like you've never loved before.
Happy future for you all :)

I came over from Lisa's Tarnished and Tattered blog and I see my daughter, Jennifer, has already beat me to the punch. As she wrote, Bella was born very early at not quite 24 weeks. Your sweet baby Hazel is beautiful and I'll be praying for God's perfect timing in her growth.
Birth is a miracle in itself, but preemies go beyond that description. They are a reminder of God's grace and faithfulness.

Oh my my. What a sweet and oh so precious baby girl. God bless you all as she builds her strength to come home. I discovered your blog through your lovely Etsy shop(s). I must say, you may just be my online soulmate! Your work and blog are so inspiring and beautiful. Lush, gorgeous and so romantic! I noticed on facebook that you like the office and pride and prejudice - hence, my favorite tv show and movie. I get the feeling you might me Catholic as well. I just bought a new mac - the 27" inch screen:) So nice to meet you. I hope your little miracle will be home with you soon. My little Evie recently turned 1 year old. She was born early, but only 10 days. I'm sure you are in heaven right now. The moments only get better.

o alice she is soooo beautiful, my second daughter (maggie) was 2 months early (she's 18 now) this looks so familiar she was in hospital for about a month, she came home with a heart monitor and lots of scary things, the nurses all told me all she needs is LoVe, she will be fine..... I was so scared, but she came home and all i did was love her and she was fine,no alarms no scarey events, so just love her she is so beautiful, and enjoy every minute you have with her, time seems to just fly by...

Alice,
God bless her tiny little beginnings. I know exactly how you feel; ecstatic and worried all in one! 22 years ago I had a little preemie son by emergency C-Section 10 weeks early. He was 2 lbs. 3 oz. and 12 inches long. He had to stay in the hospital for 2 1/2 months and we were able to bring him home when he was a whopping 4 lbs. 5 oz! Today my son Brett is healthy and in college. God was faithful to bring him through. Hold tight to Him! I'll keep you all in my prayers! :)
Blessings & hugs,
Karen
